Trends & Challenges to Date | Baby-Boomers’ Role In Health Care Services

The development of health care services involves considerable changes in the course of time. One of the main trends in the development of the contemporary health care services is the wider involvement of consumers and their growing impact on health care providers. In such a situation, health care providers have to pay more attention to consumers’ needs, wants and expectations to provide them with health care services of the high quality and provide them with long-run care contributing to the maintenance of good health in their clients in the course of aging.

Today, baby-boomers play a particularly important part in the field of health care services because they are aging and need more care services than younger people do. Moreover, unlike other consumers of previous generations, baby-boomers grow more and more concerned with their health (Saint Joseph’s College of Maine, 1993). The distinct feature of baby-boomers is the focus on their health in a long-run perspective. Unlike previous generations, baby-boomers require higher standards of health care services and they also want to develop complex services to ensure the high health standards in the course of their life (Yarwood, 2008). Their high concerns with their health have a considerable impact on health care providers because they should be able to match high expectations of their clients. Otherwise, the dissatisfaction of clients would lead to the change of providers.

In this regard, the dependence of health care providers on reimbursement made the maintenance of high quality services quite challenging. In such a situation, consumers concerned with the high quality health services could count on such services only on the condition that they could afford those services. At this point, it is worth mentioning the fact that baby-boomers have elaborated two approaches to their health care services (Chapter 17). On the one hand, they invested in their health care services using reimbursement to cover their growing health care costs, when they grew old. In such a way, they reimbursed to cover their growing health care costs. On the other hand, they focused on the maintenance of their health to decrease their need in health care services. However, health care providers also assisted their clients to provide them with opportunities to maintain their health in a good condition.

Baby-boomers attempted to maintain their health in a good condition to prevent consistent health problems. However, such focus on their health contributed to their growing pressure on health care providers to help them to maintain their health and lead the healthy lifestyle. In this regard, health care providers focused on the development of effective strategies to help their clients to improve their health and set new standards of high health quality (Smith, 2008). Clients needed extensive support and invested into various health care services oriented on the prevention of serious health problems and maintenance of their health rather than in the treatment of serious health issues.

Growing health concerns of consumers had a considerable impact on health care providers. Health care providers had to enhance consistently the quality of health services. They had to provide their clients with long-run health care and help them to maintain their health in a good condition. Therefore, health care providers have made the quality of health services of the high quality and provide their clients with extensive health care in a long run.
