Chinese New Year Essay

New Year is an important holiday in China. It has deep symbolic meaning, and, despite nowadays not all people are aware of this meaning of the holiday, it is widely celebrated by different people in different parts of the country. Initially the celebration of the New Year was organized during the beginning of the first moon month. The fest was  named Spring Festival. The celebration of the New Year used to be a celebration of new life. Different rites performed during the festival   aimed to attract good luck, good health and financial success.  During this holiday, all members of the family tried to gather under one roof in order to celebrate the New Year together.  The celebration of the New Year signifies the start of the new life in a symbolic meaning.   People use a lot of lights and fireworks to celebrate the end of the dark period and entering light to their lives. In order to attract money and prosperity people organize abundant table full of different kinds of food. Last days of the old year and first days of the new one are the time to celebrate and greet each other. During these days people sincerely wish different good things to each other. There is also a tradition to present money in special red envelopes to kids. This tradition aims to increase prosperity of the family and make kids happy. A lot of traditions and customs are not kept during the contemporary celebration, but still people like to spend time together remembering good things they had during the passing year and making their plans for the future. Even when no  rituals are kept, the holiday of the New Year is still a holiday of hope for better, start of a new life and happy family time.
