A Reflection On The Connection Between The Text & My Life

For this weekly response, I have selected the following form: a reflection on the relationship between the text and my life. The text selected for this assignment is Chuck Tryon’s “Introduction: On-demand Culture, Digital Distribution and the Future of Cinema” taken from his recent book On-Demand Culture: Digital Delivery and the Future of Movies. In this article, the author is focused on the analysis of the complexities of digital distribution in the movie industry that requires special attention due to the adoption of new innovative technologies in the field. The emerging “on-demand” culture provides many new ways to access movies and other sources of mass media, which refer to democratizing digital delivery and distribution. In fact, the author highlights the importance of individualization of media culture that influences life experiences of its consumers.

I believe that there is a significant relationship between the text and my life because I prefer to watch films via the Internet, using various methods of access of mass media sources available today. I believe that my life experience regarding the use of “on-demand” culture is closely connected with the effects of media distribution and consumption. In other words, my perception of movies has been changed due to technological progress. As a viewer, I have access to a wide range of movies without any problems. My life experience regarding the use of on-demand culture is positive because I can choose any movie I like. This fact means that democratization of the media industry has contributed to my preferences, making my choice democratized. The options provided to me are easy to access due to new technologies, e.g. smartphones, media tablets, iPhones, etc. According to the author, “this focus on distribution in the digital era offers a corrective to address what Philip Drake calls “one of the least widely understood aspects of the contemporary Hollywood film industry” (Tryon 2).  I believe that the arguments provided by Chuck Tryon reflect my own understanding of the effects of the digital delivery which have completely changed the media industry.

Moreover, the text has a close relationship with my life because media mobility influence the way I interpret media sources. Due to the emergence of new modes of movie watching, I have become more involved in various social problems, like crime, violence, domestic abuse, stress, etc. For example, TV shows help me to explore serious problems faced by our humanity. I completely agree with the author, who states that “digital delivery has effected more than how we watch movies” (Tryon 17). I have learned to discuss movies and TV shows and share my views with other people. This fact means that media mobility discussed by the author in his article contributes to social interaction.

Thus, the text “Introduction: On-demand Culture, Digital Distribution and the Future of Cinema” by Chuck Tryon has direct relation to my life. The author describes the benefits of the emerging era of digital media, placing emphasis on the changes that occurred in media distribution and consumption due to technological progress. I cannot imagine my life without the use of new media devices, which not only help me to develop individualism, but also allow sharing views with other consumers involved in the world of entertainment. Moreover, the emerging “on demand” culture helps me to explore many significant issues, which have already become the issues of concern.
