“Cyber Conflict Between Taiwan & China” Article Review

Summing up the information presented in the article “Cyber Conflict Between Taiwan and China” written by Yao-chung Chang, it can be stated that nowadays the world is participating in cyber war that is largely based on hacking, viruses, spy and a number of old-fashioned spy stuff. As the author of the article mentions, a lot of damage can cause an attack over the Internet, and this fact became a reason for a strong cyber conflict between Taiwan and China because both countries were attacked by the use of the Internet. For instance, China was attacked by hackers originated within Taiwan, and vice verse. Both countries were not only shocked by the fact of attacks, but also felt a threat on the side of hackers and their masters because first of all, attackers need to find out in advance poorly protected entry points of the enemy – the electronic gateway to personal and confidential networks.

For the purpose of demonstrating the depth of the problem of cyber attacks and their possible outcomes, the author of the article introduces various cases of cyber crime across the Taiwan Strait, and shows the necessity to protect systems from such attacks as well as explained the nature of some cooperation methods used against cyber crime.

To conclude, making a thorough research of the ways two countries are struggling against cyber crime, it becomes obvious that despite the fact that Taiwan and China are trying to minimize their contacts on formal level, there exist alternative channels for cooperation, and it helps both countries to overcome the problem. Unfortunately, two countries are too proud to realize the threat of cyber attacks and to combine their efforts in struggling the problem, but our century is a time to change such an approach because cyber war, which is in its infancy at this stage, is the most significant of the potential threats. The leading states with advanced technical and human resources could, in principle, to carry out mass disorganization and to make physical destruction by cyber-attacks on military and civilian targets. Thus, China and Taiwan should realize that it is time for a serious discussion of the ways how to limit this threat to world peace.
