My Reflection on “Frozen – Live at the Hyperion”

The live theatrical production I attended during this semester is “Frozen – Live at the Hyperion” at the Hyperion Theatre, Disney California Adventure Park, Hollywood Land. The show lasted 1 hour.

I enjoyed pre-show ambience which was positive. I had the feeling of satisfaction because I saw flashing coloured lights, impressive decorations and many people in the hall, both children and adults. The facade of the main building of the theatre was built in Hollywood style. The theatre looked magnificent. I entered the lobby, which was clean and well-decorated. It was a separate room that was not connected with the waiting room.  The theatre’s auditorium contains 1,984 seats for visitors. The box office was large, but at the same time, it did not attract my attention when I first entered the area.

In addition, the audience I met in the theatre was dressed up. Girls and boys wore bright coloured costumes. Adults were dressed up as well. I was impressed by pre-show music, which was calm and intriguing. The program notes were well-constructed to inform the audience about the details of the show. The show I visited was a musical stage show created based on Disney’s film Frozen. The genre was musical. The story was interesting to listen. I liked the imposing 2,200-square-foot stage, huge LED video walls, and large red curtains on both sides of the stage. My point of view of the work was the narration used to convey the story to the audience. Every message and every song were relevant to the plot of the story. The intention of the playwright was to help the audience feel the overall atmosphere of the story. It was well done because the audience understood the key message and applauded the actors. The simplicity of the narration technique explains  accessibility to the people of all ages and all cultural backgrounds. The intention of the playwright was to attract the audience’s attention. In addition, the actors were skilled to provide impressive acting.

Moreover, the emotions I expressed were positive. I liked the show and enjoyed practically each moment, ranging from the first appearance of the actors on the stage to final tones of the chord. The communication was entertaining because actors participated in different activities. They were dancing and singing on the stage. The voices of the actors were loud enough. Their speech was clear and easy for understanding. I was impressed by the design elements, including lighting and sound. Due to good lighting, the audience could see the actors’ emotions through their facial expressions and gestures.

The setting was decorated based on the requirements of the playwright. Lighting incorporated bright colours and changed direction in certain moments of the show. Special effects were used to create an impressive atmosphere on the stage. Besides, the costumes of the actors were well-decorated. The actors could present different characters, both kind and evil, due to creativity of costumes. Their acting was believable.

In general, my total experience regarding the Frozen – Live at the Hyperion was positive. I admired the actors who performed their roles perfectly. The stage was a unique place in this play because it reflected magic in all its forms. I had a chance to experience a highly emotional and heart-warming story about two girls Anna and Elsa. I really liked this spectacular new theatrical interpretation of Disney’s film Frozen. Moreover, I was impressed by the use of tech and quick costume changes. Actually, I believe this live theatrical production staged at the Hyperion Theatre, Disney California Adventure Park, Hollywood Land is worth attending.
