The Meyers Briggs & The Big 5 Testing Instruments ; Analysis Of My Results

I searched online and took both the Meyers Briggs (MBTI) and Big 5 testing instruments. I found that these psychological tests are used frequently by many business organizations to identify the types of personalities of employees and improve their performance and productivity. The Meyers Briggs test is used as a self-analytical teambuilding tool, while the Big 5 test is used as a hiring/selection instrument. Both testing instruments are characterized as cross-culturally valid. In this assignment, I will provide the analyses of the results of the above-mentioned tests.

To start with, I passed the Meyers Briggs test online. I answered 64 questions. I found that my corresponding MBTI type is ENTJ: Extravert (31%) iNtuitive (12%)  Thinking (9%)  Judging (28%).  These results mean that I have moderate preference of Extraversion over Introversion, slight preference of Intuition over Sensing, slight preference of Thinking over Feeling, and moderate preference of Judging over Perceiving. I agree with the results of the test because many questions provided in the questionnaire were accurate about my personality type.  I agree with the fact that as an ENTJ, I have a natural tendency to organize, control and direct other people. I prefer to be a leader in any situation because I feel that I have enough knowledge and experience to lead others. My family members consider that I use my charm and diplomacy to achieve success in leadership practices. I think that it is true. I tend to use my creativity in planning process. In addition, I agree that ENTJs are often “larger than life” in describing their plans and projects or providing their proposals. I adore telling stories about my life experience in order to propose some new ideas. I am a decisive person because I make decisions easily, without any hesitation. I always try to understand what should be done in order to assign the tasks to the people involved in this activity. For example, I always act as a leader in my family when we start planning our holidays or repairing our house. As I have excellent analytical and planning skills, I prefer to solve problems without anybody’s help. This fact means that I try to avoid asking for advice. Moreover, I completely agree with the fact that an ENTJ’s interest in learning a subject lies in the answer to the question “Will this help me solve a problem?” I always try to apply my knowledge effectively. Therefore, I try to spark the interest of other people involved in the project. As for me, the greater interest I have in the issue, the greater is my desire in applying what I learn. I believe that my interest in something contributes to my desire to learn more and achieve more goals. Besides, I believe that my learning style helps me to identify the proper strategies to address the current problems. I place due attention to new material because learning new things allows me to become more creative in my decisions. I have a good memory as I am capable of mechanical memorization. As a rule, I am concentrated on remembering some important facts that can be useful in my future life or professional career. Furthermore, I completely agree with the fact that ENTJs can easily apply the material they have learned well to their working practice. For example, I can use my theoretical knowledge in management effectively as I tend to control the outcomes of my performance. In many situations, I tend to use my creativity because I believe that creative leaders are more attractive to their followers.  Finally, I place emphasis on my communication style, which is based on respect, trust and order. I prefer to develop effective communication process in order to explain some new ideas and share my views on some issues with other people. My family members state that I am a demanding person. I do not agree with them because I tend to demand real things. I am not sure that I want everyone to recognize my views or ideas. I completely agree that I am a confident person. My confidence is reflected in my desire to follow the established principles and rules. I believe in my abilities, skills, knowledge and experience. I agree that I can encounter difficulties when communication requires finer soft skills, such as being very tactful or particularly patient, or involves the finer feelings of the soul. Sometimes, I tend to act as a rude person. However, my rudeness is my strategy to achieve the established goals and succeed in some project or task. I do not agree that poetry does not elicit a strong emotional response in me. I love reading and analyzing poems. I love music as well. My feelings help me to express my emotions adequately. I am happy that I share my MBTI type with such famous people as Franklin D. Roosevelt, Richard M. Nixon, and Margaret Thatcher. These noble people impress me because of their personality traits that helped them to make a difference in this world.

In terms of the Big 5 test, I completed the questionnaire and found that my personality can be characterized as Openness to Experience/Intellect (50%), Conscientiousness (57.5%), Extraversion (42.5%), Agreeableness (42.5%), and Neuroticism (42.5%). I feel that the results of the Big 5 test are accurate because many statements regarding my personality type are true. I analyzed five major dimensions of human personality and found that the characteristics provided by the Big 5 test developed are accurate. For example, I found that my score for openness is low. I agree that I tend to see things more literally, and focus more on the practical, straightforward, and concrete. I use concrete information to make decisions. I am practical because I always pay due attention to logical explanation of my decision making and problem solving. My score for conscientiousness is moderate. This fact means I have an ability to exercise my self-discipline and effective control in order to pursue the established goals. I am an organized person, but I have some problems with time management. My score for Extraversion is low. I agree that I am a researched and quite person. I prefer to make independent decisions. It seems to me that I do not need a lot of admiration or recognition from others in order to feel satisfied with my job. I do not agree that I tend not to be interested in money or status, and would rather lead a life that is personally pleasing than one that gains them the attention of others. I love earning money and believe that money plays an important role in human life. My score for Agreeableness is low. I agree that I put my own needs first most of the time. I do not want others to be involved in my personal affairs. I do not trust those people who are extremely caring about me. I may see others as enemies if they want to control my actions. I agree that in some situations I am unwilling to sacrifice my own needs in the service of others, especially if these people are unknown to me. My score for Neuroticism is moderate. I agree that I tend to experience and demonstrate negative emotions in various stressful situations. I am not resistant to stresses, but I try to control myself in order to avoid impulsive reactions.

In general, both tests can be used as a stimulus for me because the information I have learned from these tests helps me to have better self-reflection and insight. I completely agree with the developers of these testing instruments that studying the results can become a stimulating exercise towards increased self – knowledge and emotional intelligence.
