The Problem Of Disappearing Of Killer Whales Essay

The news article about Puget Sound that interests me is “Puget Sound Killer Whale Calf Presumed Dead After Pod Returns From Open Ocean Without It” taken from The Huffington Post. This article addresses the fate of a specific organism in the Puget Sound, namely the killer whale calf. The article was published on 21 October 2014. The main idea of the article is to present information about important ecological issues. Today endangered species require special attention of ecologists and researchers. A killer whale calf, which was born in September, 2014, died in a storm while its pod was away in the open ocean. According to whale researchers, “The baby was the first known calf born since 2012 to a population of endangered orcas that frequent Puget Sound in Washington state” (“Puget Sound Killer Whale Calf Presumed Dead After Pod Returns From Open Ocean Without It,” 2014). Although the pod is observed by whale researchers, the baby whale was lost. As a result, the newborn was found dead. He could not save himself.

In fact, there is a necessity to pay due attention to the protection of the areas, in which endangered species live. The proper assessment of living conditions of endangered species can help to avoid losses. Today the unique population of Puget Sound killer whales is disappearing. It is known that the killer whales eat fish. Babies should stay with their mothers in order to survive. If there is no fish, the pod has to go to the open ocean. Undoubtedly, whale researchers should be ready to handle the situation, if there is no fish in the area. They should take care of the killer whales’ babies.

In general, this article interests me because I am concerned about the fate of endangered species, including killer whales. I believe that people should protect killer whales from starvation death. Killer whale food supplies should be assessed and the potential problems with fish should be solved.
