Discussion of Cultural Universals

Culture is everything that people learn around and do. By its nature, culture is essential when it comes to the survival of the individual and of the particular community to which that person belongs. Cultural universals are the outline of life, consisting of features such as culture, society, behavior (Brown 47).

In fact, the concept of universals is aimed at understanding that there are groups of different entities in the world that possess and share some basic features and characteristics that make them different from each other. Cultural universals arise because all people, in whatever part of the world they live, are physically the same. They have the same biological needs and face common problems that the environment poses to humanity. People are born and die, so all the nations have customs associated with birth and death. Since they live together, they have a division of labor, dancing, games, greetings, behavior, etc.

There is no doubt that Northern people and Southern people differ in cooking or meals, dancing and family traditions. For instance, the South is a region widely known for lively jazz music and dancing, excellent cuisine and strong family relationships. In turn, in the North tea is usually sugarless and black. In most cases, this diversity happens because of such a wide variety of places and people.

What is more, this is due to the fact that cultural universals amass historically accumulated social experience in which an individual assesses, comprehends and experiences the world, and thus reduces all phenomena of reality falling within the scope of his or her experience to a single whole. In addition, universals are associated with a very stable order — a collection of people who are in a more or less constant relationship, organized through collective activities, feeling that they are all a whole.
