Employee Monitoring Essay

The article is focused on employee monitoring, different opinions of employers and employees sides and the solution of current problem.

Key words: employee monitoring, Internet access.

Nowadays it is very common situation when the organizations try to control their employees in working time. That’s so natural as employers pay money workers for their job. And the most spread and popular employees monitoring is implemented through Internet access. Is it fair? Let’s talk it over!

On the one hand, the employees believe that this is very unfair the supervisors have an entrance to their mail and web. First of all, this problem has raised as the ethical concern for employee privacy rights, because American workers are sure all of them have the rights for the personal lives. They don’t want the organizations have all their private informations, for example, about their relatives, friends or, maybe, about their vacation.

On the other hand, the employers wish to supervise employees’ performance for getting high working results. The organizations pay due attention to workers labor whereas they disburse the salary for qualified job, but not for the entertainment. The other reason of employees monitoring is for security purposes as no one employer wants to spread the organization’s own data. So, with monitoring aim was made the special software that allows to check employees activity (how much time do they spend away from their work) and all actions in computer, including saving and copying the information (Privacy Rights Clearinghouse, 1997).

I guess this issue with employees monitoring is quite easy to solve. With all the above, my point is everybody has to perform their duties at work. All of us have to do our best for getting perfect outcomes in labor, am I right? The employees should not engage in their own affairs in working time, so for solving the current problem the employers just have to block all sites, which are not related to work. When organizations restrict Internet access with entertainment sites, social networks, the employees monitoring will be unnecessary.

In conclusion, I would like to say that if the workers won’t have their private lives in working time, the employers won’t control them too much.
