Employment Law ; The Problem Of Sexual Harassment Essay

Myrna faces the problem of sexual harassment from the part of one of the clients, Simon. She properly reports her boss about the case of sexual harassment and asks her boss to relieve her from harassment. However, her boss does virtually nothing to put the end to harassment. In spite of Myrna request, her boss did not stop harassing behavior from the part of the client and he did not even say directly that he should stop such unacceptable actions in relation to his employee. Such actions or, to put it more precisely, inaction of Stuart, Myrna’s boss, put under a threat the employee and make him liable to the investigation of his inaction by the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

In fact, Myrna reported the case of sexual harassment to Stuart. In this regard, she acted within the framework of the existing legislation that aims at the prevention of sexual harassment in the workplace environment. She reported to her employer about the case of inappropriate behavior from the part of the client. Her employer should respond to the case of harassment and put the end to the inappropriate behavior of the customer to protect his employee (Smothers & Smothers, 2011). However, Stuart did not respond adequately to Myrna’s report. Instead, his late talk with Simon did not clarify that he views actions of his client as sexual harassment and his words do not contain any direct demands to change Simon’s behavior. This is why Stuart is liable to the investigation of the case of sexual harassment by the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission because of his inaction in case of sexual harassment involving one of his employees.

Hence, Stuart is legally liable to protect his employees like Myrna from cases of sexual harassment. He should respond to her report and stop sexual harassment in his workplace environment.
