Discussing an Important Issue of National Security

Most of the issues of international security nowadays are closely related to the process of globalization, which has serious impact upon national political and economic situation. The concept of international security includes the set of measures and approaches, exercised by various countries of the world with the aim of providing mutual safety in the international relations. This set of measures should not be limited only to military activities, it also includes diplomatic treaties and negotiations. In addition there is a strong connection between national and international security for every country of the world. Globalization contributes to rapid development of interaction between individuals, as well as the whole nations. The nations have impact upon each other in this process of communication, influencing political, economic, cultural spheres, but still there are certain discrepancies between different nations, which might lead to conflicts. Terrorist attacks are currently one of the acute issues in national and international security, as the attacks of September 11 had shown that nobody and nowhere is really safe. Some of the researchers state that these attacks are the result of the increase of political globalization. This position could be either supported or not, but at any rate globalization has significant impact upon national security. Globalization is one of the major driving forces for the development of international relations and important issues of national and international security such as global terrorism, political and religious tensions and economic issues.

Starting from the end of the twentieth century and till the moment it is possible to trace both positive and negative effects of globalization. Closer and more effective economic cooperation and cultural exchange belong to the advantages, brought by globalization. Collision of religious and other positions, spread of terrorism belongs to list of negative outcomes of it. Globalization brings new challenges for national security, such as for example spreading of different extremism forms, separatism, corruption, regional conflicts, ecological problems and terrorism. Although all countries have separate political and economic structures, they still remain too much dependant upon each other and globalization only increases this dependency.

Globalization contributes to creation of the new national security environment. On the one hand globalization causes quick technological and scientific progress along with increase of the communication between nations. There is a possibility to create multiparty organizations, helping to manage the issues of national security on a higher level. On the other hand globalization is responsible for the lack of balance between nations. Long time ago it was possible to support national security with the help of military forces. Nowadays, informational, financial and economic resources are also meaningful for sustaining of national security in the world.

Terrorism was already mentioned as a vital threat for the national security. There were a lot of attempts made in order to find the most appropriate solution to this problem, but till the moment none of them proved to be really effective. Terrorists continue to change their strategies and approaches, finding new ways of impacting the security sphere. “The growth of international terrorism had entailed the necessity to cooperate in order to fight international terrorism. Thus, national programs aiming the interaction against terrorism were established within the frameworks of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Commonwealth of Independent States.” (Ivanov, 2003).

Overall, protection of the rights and security of all citizens of the country is the major concern all over the world. There is a strong connection between national and international challenges and this is the reason, why the problems of international security should be considered as top priorities in every country. Globalization, as the strongest driving force of the development of political, economic and military relations in the world, should be considered with great attention in the field of national and international security.
