Inside Obama’s Presidency Essay

The US President traditionally is perceived as the leader of the nation, who defines, to a significant extent, both domestic and foreign policies of the US. In this regard, Barak Obama was not just one of the youngest US Presidents but also the first African American President, who though had to deal with serious problems just from the beginning of his term in the office.

The main challenges Barak Obama was facing at the moment of his first election were the deepest financial crisis and economic recession in almost one hundred years; two wars, in Iraq and Afghanistan; and the inner controversy in the US as for solutions of economic problems and foreign policies of the US (Frontline, 2013). At the beginning of his Presidency, Obama was in a very difficult position. However, in the course of his first term, he has achieved certain progress in his foreign policy by fulfilling his promise to withdraw the US troops from Iraq and Afghanistan (Frontline, 2013). In addition, under his Presidency, the US intelligence and military have managed to kill Osama bin Laden, the number one terrorist and the major threat to the US since 9/11. In terms of economy, Barak Obama was less successful as the government support of large corporations resulted in quite a painful response from the part of the general public.

The Frontline documentary reveals the major problems Barak Obama has faced and how he has dealt with the major issues, such as wars and the economic recession. However, the Frontline focuses on the foreign policy of the US and underestimates such issues as the health care reform and the increasing role of state in the US economy. The Frontline correlates to Lowi’s idea of the key role of the US President in the US foreign policy (Lowi 2012). In addition, Lowi develops the similar idea that could be traced in the Frontline that the US Congress attempts to push on the US President to determine economic policies conducted by the government (Lowi, 2012).
