The Industrial Revolution: by the Monograph & Journal

The Industrial Revolution was an important historical event that changes the face of production forever. However, Mokyr and Temin in their papers argue that there is a need for reevaluation of the impact of this event. However, they do in different ways.

Mokyr in his monography and Temin in his article acknowledge that there are two possible views on the nature of the Industrial Revolution. It is suggested that the historical perception of it may be misleading to a certain extent[1] Similarly, the article shows that there are some authoritative alternative view on the Industrial Revolution[2]. The two authors show that while it would not be logical to belittle the significance of this historical event, its interpretation should be more complex than the one that is widely recognized. In other words, they believe that the public should develop a deeper understanding of it.

However, there are some significant differences between the two texts. First of all, the monography addresses the general alternative perspective on the issue, not focused on any specific scholars[3]. Contrary to that, the article specifically relies on the work of two scholars[4]. In addition to that, the two authors differ in the terms of how they perceive the structure of the Industrial Revolution. The monography acknowledges its broad nature and does not dispute it[5]. The article, on the other hand, shows that there is a view that limits the Revolution to a few industries[6]. Furthermore, the two authors are different in addressing their opponents. The monography supports the needs to reevaluate the significance of the Industrial Revolution by the new evidence discovered[7]. Contrary to that, the article shows that the alternative view of the Revolution is limited by the work of the two scholars in question [8]. That is why it is clear that the authors of the two works try to achieve the same goal, but choose different ways to do that.
