Approaches to Managing Types of Staff Turnover in a Company

All companies are focused upon appropriate organization of their turnover policies. Any company needs to retain loyal and efficient employees, as this is one of the most important factors for retaining of customers and increasing of sales, leading to overall success of the company. Those organizations, which could be characterized by low turn-over, tend usually to perform better. At the same time it is important to consider the situations, when the performance of some employees goes down and has negative impact upon operating of the organization. In other words, all companies face these dual challenges, when they are to separate and retain employees.

There are two types of employees’ turnover: voluntary and involuntary. The major challenge for any organization is to work out the approaches for managing both types, to secure that good performers remain with the organization, whereas the workers with poor performance are encouraged or forced to leave. When the process of turnover is initiated by the organization, then it is called involuntary turn over. Organizations need to increase their turnover in case, some of the employees reveal low efficiency and productivity rates, they turn out to be unable to go in the same space, as their organization does in relation to application IT technologies for example, they are not ready to develop along with the organization, they are not ready to adhere to organizational values and so on. At the same time the companies are to work out the strategies for retention of the high-performance employees. For  example they are to improve the hiring and the onboarding processes, inform clearly the goals and expectations, provide training for the managers, provide opportunities for growth and development of their employees, promote work–life balance and collect frequent feedback in order to follow the situation in time. Thus, all companies are to work out such effective HR programs, which would allow them retaining the high-performers and creating positive turnover for low performers.
