Islamic Civilization Essay Example

In the mid-20th century, the Arab world and the Muslim civilization confront a number of challenges which raise multiple threats not only to stability of Arab states but also to foundations of the Muslim civilization. In this regard, the growing impact of the western civilization and persisting disagreements and controversies between Arab states become probably the major obstacle on their way to the unified response to the west. This is why Arab states should unite their efforts and revive the power of the Muslim civilization since they should become the locomotive that will pull the entire Muslim civilization to prosperity, wellbeing and unity in the future. In face of the growing pressure from the western world and western civilization Arab world and Muslim civilization should unite their efforts on the ground of Arab nationalism and Islamic ideology, where the unification of Arab states on the ground of Arab nationalism will be the first step toward the reign of the Islamic ideology and the unification of all Muslims worldwide.

The post- World War world has changed the position of Arab states and Muslim civilization because they turned out to be between two major world powers which are equally hostile to fundamental principles of Islam because of their excessive materialism and disregard of values which are traditional for Arabs and all Muslims. In such a situation, Arab states as well as other Muslim states confront the growing pressure from the part of the Western civilization which attempts to impose its ideology, bring in its cultural values, and set the economic and political control over Arab states and other Muslim countries. Arab states cannot confront the growing pressure, if they are divided. Instead, their unification is the urgent necessity to make them capable to confront the overwhelming impact of the western civilization which actually threatens to the survival of Muslim civilization. Just like hundred years ago, when Islam has emerged and become one of the main world religions, Arab states should once again unite their efforts and consolidate their power to be able to compete and confront the western civilization as a stronghold of the Islamic civilization.

In face of the growing pressure from the part of the western civilization Arab nationalism sprang out. Arab nationalism is a relatively new trend in the Arab world because historically Islam was the key element of the ideology of Arab countries. Nevertheless, this ideology gains a lot of popularity, especially after the establishment of the Arab League which has become the foundation for the future monolithic Arab state. The balance between Arab nationalism and Islamism is essential since historically they always go hand-in-hand and so they should do in the future as well. Arab nationalism is unthinkable aside of Islamic ideology because Islam sets the ideological and cultural ground for Arab nationalism and Arab culture. Arab civilization is Islamic civilization in the first turn.

On the other hand, Arab world and culture is unthinkable without Islam. Traditionally Arab world was grounded on the Islamic ideology. This is why Arab nationalism should also rely on Islam as the milestone of Arab nationalism ideology. This ideology can unite Arab nations and bring them to prosperity because having the common ideological ground they can unite their political power and resources to gain a better competitive position in the world. They may become the third world power that may challenge both the western ideology and the Communist ideology, which, in its essence, is a branch of the western ideology as well, because it emerged in Germany and is grounded on western ideas. In such a context, Arab nationalism may be viewed as the first step to the attainment of Islamic traditional goals of the unification of Muslims globally. Therefore, Arab nationalism is an essential step toward the achievement of greater goals of the unification of the Muslim civilization united not only by common religion or ethnic background but also and mainly by common culture, ideology and system of values, which is different from those of western civilization which imposes the enormous pressure on Arab and Muslim countries at the moment.

However, Arab nationalism and Islamic ideology oriented on the unification of the Arab world and Muslim civilization should involve the economic aspect along with political and cultural unification. The economic power is an essential condition of the overall success of Arab nationalism and unification of Arab states. Otherwise, a potentially strong ideology will simply fade away, if there is no economic ground for building up the united Arab state and, later, united Muslim world.

Thus, Arab nationalism is the major driver that can help the Muslim civilization to survive in the civilizational struggle against the rising western civilization and, what is more, Arab nationalism can help Arab states to unite their efforts and their power to drive all Islamic states toward success, wellbeing and prosperity in boundaries of the global Islamic civilization. Arab nationalism is the ideology that can bring the entire Islamic civilization to success and prosperity. Arab states, being united, have the power and capability to take the lead once again as they did in the past and make the Islamic civilization equal or even superior to the western civilization. Hence, Arab nationalism grounded on Islamic principles and values can unite and lead not only Arab states but also all Muslim states worldwide.
