Juvenile Justice Brief Essay

Any society is able to exist on the basis of some rules and regulations, which need to be considered and fulfilled by each member of the society. In order to guarantee the efficiency of these regulations, they should be supported by a system of control and punishment; this was the main reason, why justice system is critical for any society. Unfortunately not only adult people could become criminals and break the laws. Also young people might develop tendencies towards committing some criminal actions. On the one hand, they should not have the chance to avoid responsibility for their actions; on the other hand they could not be treated in the same way, like adult people. That’s why Juvenile Justice System was additionally worked out in most counties of the world, having the main task of taking care and supervising of young offenders and criminals, providing them additional chances to enter community and return to normal life. There is a complex system of juvenile justice supervisors, centers, courts and police departments. Generally juvenile justice is defined in the following way: “Juvenile justice is the area of criminal law applicable to persons not old enough to be held responsible for criminal acts.” (Finley 2007). One of the most widely accepted approaches for juvenile justice is built on the principle of rehabilitation, not punishment.

Most of the issues, related to the sphere of juvenile justice, are rather complex and controversial. There are a lot of problems, which are related to racial issues, to children with various kinds of disabilities, to low-income families and problems of children, living there and so on. There are numerous debates, devoted to the theme of effectiveness and strong mechanisms in the system of juvenile justice, thorough consideration of the potential factors, having impact upon worsening of the situation with juvenile delinquencies.
