Even if we are not constantly aware of this fact – we are to face numerous ethical dilemmas in our every day lives. We are to consider various situations and take correct decisions. Certainly everybody acts on the basis of his own understanding of human values and “correctness” of choice. Ethics is a very complex area, there are no universal answers to the questions, irrespective of the fact how much we would like to have them. I could remember one simple situation, when one of my friends took the bike of our schoolmate and we had a great day together. On the way home, he fell from the bike and damaged unintentionally bicycle handlebars. It was not an absolute disaster, but it was evident that it was not ok. He asked me not to tell the truth to the owner of bicycle, because we were friends and were to protect each other in any situation. According to his moral position I was to support him irrespective of the fact, what he did. My position was different. I was convinced that everybody should learn to take responsibility for his actions, especially if they turn out to be harmful for others. He insisted that he did it without direct intention and thus it was not really his fault. Again I could not agree, if he did it, then this was his fault and he was to be responsible for this. I suggested telling the truth and looking for the ways to improve the situation. First we quarreled, because my friend was convinced that my behavior was like a betrayal of friendship. Fortunately later he was able to acknowledge that I was right and we found the service for bicycles together with the owner of the bike and settled the problem. Finally, we remained all three good friends and we remind each other about this situation from time to time, when we are to make other choices.
