Models Of The Software Development Essay

The software development is a challenging process that involves the use of different models. In actuality, there are different models of the software development. In this regard, it is possible to distinguish the traditional and iterative model of the software development and either model has its strengths and weaknesses.

The traditional model of the software development involves several key steps. First, the software development involves the requirement analysis which means the analysis of goals the software has to match and the key requirements to the software. Then, developers of the software have to design the software and create the functional model before software goes to the implementation stage, when the designed software is introduced in the real world environment (Thayer & Boehm, 2012). After that the software is tested to find out its drawbacks and to eliminate them. The integration of software involves the inclusion of the developed software into the information system. Finally, the traditional model includes the maintenance of the software which includes updates and addressing problems in the software.

The iterative model of the software development is different from the traditional model. The distinct feature of the iterative model is the creation of smaller but ever larger portions of the software which are created and later tested to ensure their functionality and stability (Elliott, 2004). In such a way, the software is created steadily step by step and each step of the software creation is tested. This model is more flexible than traditional one because the software development may undergo changes upon the completion of every portion of software until the software is finally completed.

Thus, both traditional and iterative models of the software development are quite effective but the iterative model is more flexible compared to the traditional one.
