The African American origin can be traced through detailed analysis of the music and instruments used. To put it more precisely, white American music tends to use instruments and harmony, while African American music uses instruments, such as banjo and drums, and tends to complex rhythm, improvisation, call and response, which are distinct features of jazz. In fact, jazz music is grounded on improvisation and complex rhythm with the use of traditional African American instruments along with instruments, that are traditionally used in white American music, but these instruments are still used to create the complex rhythm and music that has features of African American music.

Explanation

The emergence of jazz became extremely influential and popular because African American music has started to grow as a powerful direction in the development of American music, due to the rise of such musical styles as blues, ragtime, and others. The growing popularity of jazz and African American music was the result of the increased role of the African American community in the life of the US society and the interest of white Americans to the new music, which was totally different from their own music. In such a way, the audience readily responded to the new musical style that encouraged African American musicians to keep their music developing. In addition, the traditional white music became out-fashioned. Moreover, the changing rhythm of life of Americans after the fast industrialization and urbanization made fast and complex rhythm in music particularly attractive that opened the way for jazz to become extremely popular in the US.
