Our brain is one of the most complex things in the whole universe. This complexity becomes even higher when it comes to analyzing the work of a child’s brain. A few scholars have dedicated their works to researching how children learn their life and what their brain does over this process. One of such articles, “Neuroscience, play and early childhood education: Connections, Implications and Assessment” (2009) by Rushton, Juola-Rushton, & Larking has made a great contribution to addressing this issue. Thus, the main task of the given assignment is to summarize the given work.

To begin, it is clear that dendrites consisting of thousands of neurons across the brain are responsible for acquiring new knowledge by a child. They can appear at any time while children are playing or studying something. At the same time, it has been noticed that it is possible to create a special environment that would make these dendrites occur more rapidly and intensively. Of course, it is not easy to create such an environment because it should meet certain criteria. For example, all physical objects within a room should be physically attractive for kindergarten children, a room should be designed to enable both individualized and group work, and the children should have an opportunity to manipulate with all the objects that are to influence all their feelings and emotions. If these conditions are met, the perfect learning environment for 4-5-year-old children can be achieved.

Then, the learning environment is not the only phenomenon to affect the child’s brain activities, as the study reports. Here, the authors emphasize the role of teachers in educating kindergarten children. Numerous experiments have shown that not only copy children the actions and behavior of their children, they can also imitate a teachers’ emotional state, which becomes possible due to the work of mirror neurons. So, some emotions can support learning, while others are a danger for the given process. That is why teachers should pay a great attention to what they do, think, feel, and show to their young students in order to not build any barriers to learning.

To continue, the authors introduce the precise principles of learning that consider developmentally appropriate practices (DAP) in childhood education and Cambourne’s Conditions of Literacy Learning. According to the information above, effective learning is possible only if a child is included in a rich learning environment with appropriate literature and materials to deal with. Also, teachers should take into consideration the child’s creative and spontaneous abilities because the young students need their intentions to be expressed. Children are not able to learn under stressful conditions; therefore, the environment should be safe, optimistic and calm, which provides them with the freedom to make choices. It is very important that no child should be criticized for making a wrong choice, otherwise a stressful condition appears. Finally, it is obligatory to remember that it is play that is the main learning model for 4-5-year-old children. Thus, games should be developed correspondingly for each child to be able to cope with a task and learn the required information.

In conclusion, we can say that leaning is a complex process implying thousands of neurons performing their tasks. Also, the process requires a few criteria to be met in order to achieve some results, especially when it comes to kindergarten children. However, if all the learning environment pieces of advice are followed, it is possible to create the environment, in which the children will be able to achieve successful results. Finally, it is necessary to remember that we are not able to force our children to learn; on the other hand, we can create the suitable conditions for them to do it.
