John Milton & His Idea About Competition Essay

John Milton was one of the most influential thinkers of his time. At the same time, his revolutionary views and innovative ideas have had a considerable impact on the further development of European philosophy as well as other sciences. In this respect, his view on the competition of through is particularly noteworthy because he coins the idea of the fair competition, which was innovative for his time and which has become mainstream now.

John Milton believed that the competition should be grounded on fair principles and put rivals in the fair conditions. In other words, he believed that it would be fair to put rivals in the similar or identical conditions to ensure that it is only one’s individual skills, abilities or just genius that help them to take the lead and outpace their rivals. Such innovative ideas evoked considerable criticism because he virtually denied the class division of society and suggested to break up the existing status quo with the strict division between the nobility and the rest of society holding the lower social standing. The development of the effective competition emerges, according to Milton, from equal conditions and opportunities, where no rivals have any preferences. Such ideas paved the way for the fair competition, which became particularly popular in the 20th century and are still popular now because the fair competition is the fundamental concept of the contemporary open market economy.

Thus, John Milton developed his concept of the competition of through that implied the elimination of substantial preferences, privileges and barriers between individuals and organizations. In such a way, the idea of competition became innovative and helped to coin the new concept of competition.
