Plagiarism in Students’ Writing Papers Essay

The problem of plagiarism in writing papers is extremely acute in our time. Plagiarism in an essay is unacceptable in the modern scientific community, which feature is the abundance of sources, all and existing scientific works. Plagiarism is the use of someone else’s intellectual property rights in own work. In fact, it is the theft of other people’s work. Sometimes students use intentional plagiarism when they have too little time to read the full text and retell it in own words, or when they do not fully understand the meaning of reading. In this case, students just copy and paste entirely works without specifying the source. Intentional plagiarism is a much more serious violation of the rules of writing papers; it is a true steal of someone else’s intellectual work.

Here are a few reasons why plagiarism is considered unethical. When students commit plagiarism, they are doing yourself and entire society a disservice.

  1. Students are depriving themselves of the opportunity to acquire and hone skills that may be needed in future work. In addition, they will not get adequate advice on how to improve their knowledge and skills.
  2. They make future employers and educators question overall performance and efficiency of their work.
  3. They are cheating teachers who appreciate their work.
  4. Students are depriving another author the right to mention his name in connection with his work.
  5. They show disrespect for their classmates, who performed the work themselves.

To avoid plagiarism, students should always keep in mind the rules of citation. Regardless of whether they use direct or indirect quotation, it is necessary to indicate the author and / or source. To avoid permanent citation before using someone’s text, you should become familiar with the topic. This will help form own opinions, which will be based on own text. Then other people’s achievements are not the fundamental core, but rather a complement to own thoughts, opinions and assumptions.
