Polar Bears Essay

The polar bear, the symbol of the Arctic, is likely to disappear from the face of the Earth by the end of this century. The reason is the continuing global warming and consequently, the rapid reduction of the ice cover of the Arctic Ocean. For a polar bear, ice that persists at sea throughout the year is a necessary condition for existence, since only from the ice it can extract its main food – seals. Accordingly, the forecast of the future state of the ice cover is a forecast of the state of the polar bear population.

The video presents shocking scenes, which greatly influenced my attitude to the problem of polar bears (Gibbens, 2017). The video demonstrates the idea that there is no time to ignore the problem because wild animals are dying and they need urgent help. I strongly believe that this video and article are an effective way to communicate about biodiversity loss and climate change because on the one hand, presented information touches human feelings and illustrates everything with many shocking and truthful details; on the other hand, it forces people to think about the problem from quite another visual angle. It seems that the video penetrates the heart and makes people feel the pain and desperation of the suffering and dying animal. The video needs no changes because it is effective in promoting its message to the audience. This video not only causes pain and compassion in the heart, but it is a call to action. It forces people stop to ignore existing problems and begin to act more thoughtfully about the environment

Thus, having watched the video and read the article, it becomes evident that polar bears are in an extremely dangerous situation now. The future of a polar bear depends entirely on the state of the ice cover. Therefore, it is so important to give an accurate prediction of this condition, and the only way to save these great animals is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions for the purpose to stop global climate change.
