Features of the Development of Infants in the Postpartum and in Early Childhood
- The fast development of connections in the brain helps the brain to develop at the fast pace after the birth. Connections are essential for the brain development and relate to the high brain activity in babies after their birth and in the course of their growth and development during their early childhood.
- The development of sensory regions responsible for vision, touch, and other senses help babies to explore and learn the world around them. This is why babies tend to use all of their senses to explore the world around them and their social environment.
- The development of temporal and frontal lobes helps to develop emotions, thinking and language skills of children. Those areas in the brain start developing later than areas responsible for motor and sensory activities.
- Synapses grow extremely fast after the birth and peak in the early childhood.
- The growth of synapses stimulates the brain activity in children that facilitates their cognitive development.
- The energy use by the brain changes drastically after the birth being low active before the birth the brain starts consuming a lot of energy after the birth.
- The low level of myelin slows down electrical transmission between neurons and, therefore, information processing in babies and children in the early childhood.
- The increase of myelin level starts in motor and sensory areas that determine the faster development of motor and sensory skills in babies.
- Myelination determines the way children explore and learn the world around them and develop cognitively and physically.
- Malnutrition may cause the low level of myelin that may slow down brain development and cognitive development of children.
