Ruby Lake Community Program Design & Development

Abstract: Ruby Lake Community summary

The research strategies used to study the Ruby Lake Community and the delivery of health care services to the target community include: needs assessment, involvement of religious leaders and interaction with community leaders, practice-based study of the target community. These strategies help to identify needs of the target population. Also these strategies help to reach the community leaders and help to use their authority to persuade the target population to switch toward the use of science-based medicine along with their traditional faith-based medicine. Finally, these strategy help to study health care practices of the target community and find out effective ways to integrate existing health care practices into the delivery of required health care services to enhance the public health in the local community. On the other hand, these strategies have some drawbacks. First, needs assessment may fail to range needs of the target population accurately since needs of community members may vary consistently, especially depending on the age and health condition of community members. Second, the selected strategies may misrepresent the position of community members but focus on the position of community leaders mainly. Also, the focus on practice-based study raises the problem of the lack of scientifically grounded evidence and questions the credibility of the data obtained in the course of the research.

The strategies lend themselves to quite an accurate needs assessment of the Ruby Lake neighborhood but there are certain risks of subjectivity of the data collected with the help of these strategies. The data analysis is important in this regard, to avoid biased and subjective interpretation of the data collected in the course of the research.

The changes suggested above can improve the results through the analysis of actual community needs with regard to the public health and the evaluation of health care practices of the community. Such analysis will help to determine the key issues and address them, while developing the new health care policy. The interaction with community leaders is important not only in terms of understanding the community need but also in terms of gaining their support at the stage of the implementation of the new policy. The support of the new policy by community leaders is an important condition of the overall success of the new policy. Anyway, I would design the needs assessment taking into consideration the interaction and involvement of community leaders and the analysis of current practices in the community.Such approach would not only help to identify the key needs of the community but also helped to implement the new health care policy successfully.

Research Strengths and Weaknesses

First, needs assessment may fail to range needs of the target population accurately since needs of community members may vary consistently, especially depending on the age and health condition of community members (DeBate, et al., 2015). Second, the selected strategies may misrepresent the position of community members but focus on the position of community leaders mainly. Also, the focus on practice-based study raises the problem of the lack of scientifically grounded evidence and questions the credibility of the data obtained in the course of the research.

The aforementioned strategies aim at the evaluation of needs of the target community. In spite of possible drawbacks, these strategies are worth implementing in the course of the study because they open the way for the effective analysis of current needs of the community along with the evaluation of health care practices within the community. In such a way, such strategies will help to obtain the information about current practices and problems of the community related to health care. In addition, these strategies help to communicate and interact with community leaders, who do not just help to understand needs of their community better but who are also capable to introduce and lead changes in their community. Therefore, their involvement in the study will help not only to assess needs but also to introduce required changes in the target community. The strength of these strategies is in its orientation on the community and the revelation of the community needs from within. The data collected with the help of such strategies are internal data obtained either from community members or from practices that community sticks to at the moment.

How Strategies enable accurate assessment

The strategies lend themselves to quite an accurate needs assessment of the Ruby Lake neighborhood but there are certain risks of subjectivity of the data collected with the help of these strategies. The data analysis is important in this regard, to avoid biased and subjective interpretation of the data collected in the course of the research.

The accuracy and usefulness of the Ruby Lake needs assessment is very important because it defines the overall effectiveness of the health care policy in the community and the effectiveness of efforts to close gaps between traditional faith-based health care and the science-based one. In this regard, the involvement of community members in the study in terms of the proposed strategies will increase the accuracy.

On the  other hand, there is still the risk of subjectivity of findings obtained in the course of the study because participants of the study, such as community leaders, for example, may provide subjective information that does not represent the position of other community members. The overall effectiveness of such strategies is still quite high and so is accuracy (Buser, et al., 2008). The risk of subjective or inaccurate data persists but it is relatively low, while the information about actual needs of the community revealed with the help of these strategies is very important because it is community and community members, who provide the information for the study. In such a way, these strategies imply obtaining first hand information from the target population and analysis of the target community.

How changes improve results

The changes suggested above can improve the results through the analysis of actual community needs with regard to the public health and the evaluation of health care practices of the community. Such analysis will help to determine the key issues and address them, while developing the new health care policy. The interaction with community leaders is important not only in terms of understanding the community need but also in terms of gaining their support at the stage of the implementation of the new policy (Apesoa-Varano, 2015-2016). The support of the new policy by community leaders is an important condition of the overall success of the new policy. Anyway, I would design the needs assessment taking into consideration the interaction and involvement of community leaders and the analysis of current practices in the community. Such approach would not only help to identify the key needs of the community but also helped to implement the new health care policy successfully.

At the same time, it is possible to provide some recommendations and rationales for improvement of the strategies. First, the involvement of community leaders should also take into consideration the popularity and support of those leaders by community leaders. For example, the formal community leader may have the authority granted by traditions and rules of the community, but the leader may have little support or low confidence of community members (Placido & Cecil, 2014). In other words, the leader may lack the community support. In such a case, the risk of gaps between the community and the leader is high. The involvement of such leader is unreasonable because the leader cannot meet interests and needs of the community and gain the large scale support. Hence, the leader cannot provide accurate information on current needs of the community or related public health issues. Second, the analysis of best practices should be performed in the comparison and contrast with other communities that will help to find out distinct features of the target community and its specific problems in the field of the public health and delivery of health care services. The implementation of these recommendations will enhance the accuracy of findings of the study and will help to elaborate more effective health care policies to meet community needs to the full extent.
