Sample Qualitative Research Proposal

Reviewing the Sample Qualitative Research Proposal document, it is possible to assess the quality of paper. This type of academic writing requires compliance with the established standards of qualitative research proposal writing ( Munhall & Chenail, 2008). The author provides accurate structuring of his paper, which consists of the following elements: background of the study, statement of purpose, purpose statement for qualitative methodology, research question and ethical considerations. The content of the research proposal is written with interest to allow the reviewers have a good understanding of the key steps of the study.

To start with, it is necessary to analyse the author’s envisioned research purpose, research question (or questions), data sources, and ethical processes. The author’s envisioned research purpose is clearly articulated. The author is interested in researching the problem faced by leaders in today’s manufacturing industries. They fail to consider factors beyond compensation that guide employees’ decisions to leave organizations. As a result, their lack of understanding of the phenomenon of employee work engagement leads to increased turnover rate. According to experts, “identifying a research agenda requires that the research clarify the problem or phenomenon of interest to be studied” (Speziale et al., 2011, p. 363). The author persuasively articulates the need for the study, as the envisioned research purpose provides direction to proceed with  proposal writing. The research question developed by the author is clear and concise. The research question is formulated in connection with other  elements of research design. The author addresses the field of study and the direction of the research in order to achieve the set goal. According to experts, “research questions in qualitative investigations tend to be general because they cannot yet name the major concepts that will be discovered during the research process” (Morse et al., 2001, p. 76). In this research proposal, the author fails to use this type of question. His research question is special: “How do leaders in the manufacturing industry describe the phenomenon of employee work engagement?” Nevertheless, this specific question allows providing accurate analysis of data through observations and  interviewing.  The data sources presented in the research proposal paper are clearly defined. The author uses three types of data sources, including in-depth one-on-one interviews, a focus group discussion using a semi-structured interview approach, and direct observations. Actually, the number of data sources is sufficient to draw relevant conclusions based on the obtained information.

Additionally, the author places emphasis on the ethical processes associate with the study. He is focused on addressing the issues like the ethical treatment of all human subjects, anonymity of organizations, reviewing of all ethical procedures, requirements, and protections. The author is aimed at using specific procedures to guarantee the highest degree of commitment to ethical principles in his  research. Hence, his ethical considerations are clearly determined. According to experts, “informed consent is an ethical principle that requires researchers to obtain voluntary consent, including description of the potential risks and benefits of participation” (Speziale et al., 2011, p. 194). In this research proposal paper, the author considers the need for signing Informed Consent Forms by participants and using a pseudonym for the company to protect the identity of both participants and the organization.

Furthermore, it is crucial to assess the alignment of the key elements of research study, including the research process, research question, data sources, and ethical processes, with the identified  research management dilemma presented as a serious applied business problem requiring the proper response. The research process described by the author is easy to understand as it is well-developed, clear and  accurate. It does not create the feeling of confusion or uncertainty. Each step described by the author is aimed at achieving the purpose of research study. The author uses effective approaches relying on qualitative methods to obtain valuable information. The author explores how manufacturing industry leaders describe the phenomenon of employee work engagement, based on the three independent data to conduct  case study triangulation analysis. Besides, the research question addresses the management dilemma faced by today’s leader in the manufacturing industry. If the author finds out how leaders in the manufacturing industry describe the phenomenon of employee work engagement, he will be able to give some recommendations on the ways to resolve this problem effectively. The data sources selected by the author are linked to the key issue because each of the sources is relevant to exploring the various aspects of the phenomenon of employee work engagement. The ethical processes described by the author are widely accepted and can help to improve the quality of research. According to  experts, researchers should be aware of research ethics and various ethical issues, applying “ethical literacy” (Mauthner et al., 2002; Wiles, 2012). It is obvious that the author has a good understanding of ethical issues which can emerge in the process of research. In this case, the author’s decision can be assessed as situational and contextual because the author addresses the participants and the company as the key played in research. In other words, the author meet the needs of research participants. All in all, the elements of this qualitative research proposal are presented in a way that allow capture the key idea and explore the leaders’ perception of the phenomenon of employee work engagement as a serious applied business problem which affects organizational performance and productivity.

Conclusion

Thus, it is necessary to conclude that the Sample Qualitative Research Proposal is well-developed because the author has succeeded in meeting the key requirements of research proposal writing. In general, the key elements of research proposal are aligned with the identified research management dilemma.
