Session Reflections for Education of Exceptional Learners

The development of co-teaching in the contemporary classroom environment is a relatively new trend in the development of education and enhancement of the overall effectiveness of the learning process. Co-teaching has a considerable potential but its successful implementation depends on the ability of educators to establish effective partnership and cooperation in the classroom environment and the planning process.

Co-teaching involves the interaction of two educators working closely together. They have to collaborate closely to be able to maintain the learning process effectively. Co-teaching starts with the effective interaction between educators and focuses on the redistribution of the focus of each teacher on the particular group of students. As a rule, co-teaching involves classrooms, where there are children with disabilities. In such a case, one educator can focus on working with the main group in the classroom, whereas another can focus on children with special needs and experience some difficulties. Such collaboration contributes to the inclusion of all students into the classroom and facilitates their learning because students with disabilities can understand better the learning material, when they work closely with well-trained educator, who specializes in the field of teaching students with disabilities.

However, the main point of the development of co-teaching is the inclusion of all students in the learning process and classroom activities. In fact, co-teachers do not simply pay more attention to each student but they make the learning process more productive as they adapt to needs of every students and they complement each other’s performance. In such a way, they achieve the inclusion of all students into the classroom activities and the learning process at large. Hence, students with disabilities get wider opportunities to get integrated into the classroom.
