“Six Degrees Could Change the World” Movie Review

Though it does not seem like a big thing, a small temperature shift in six degrees can lead to extreme, horrifying consequences and here is an explanation, what each degree means for the Planet Earth.

One degree up means that the Arctic is ice-free for half the year and the hurricanes are hitting the south Atlantic. America, a cattle country, turns into a desert, and England faces its best agricultural days.

With the temperature rising two degrees higher, some changes to the sphere are no longer gradual. Greenland’s glacial is disappearing. The insects migrate to the new strange directions, killing the forests and Tundra is melting off.

With three degrees the Arctic is ice-free all summer long, the Amazon rainforest is drying out, Alps’ snow cups disappear, and the life support system starts breaking down.

Four degrees up the oceans rise, overtaking the homes of billions of people, glacials vanish, shutting off the fresh water for billions more. The Arctic collapses, raising the sea level much higher and Canada now is the agricultural zone of the planet Earth,

Five degrees Celsius higher – two massive uninhabitable areas spread into once temperate regions of the northern and southern hemisphere. The snow-covered zone and aquifers that feed the world’s largest cities, like Los Angeles, Bombay, Lima, dry out. Hundreds of millions of people are the refugees of the climate changes.

When the temperature rises six degrees up, the oceans will appear bright blue, but there will be marine wastelands. The desserts will conquer the continents and natural disasters – will become common events. Sadly, world’s greatest cities will be flooded and abandoned.

The scientists point out, that right now we already live in the world that is one degree warmer than it used to be for thousands of years and the human contribution to the Global warming is significant. Some regions have already been facing extreme consequences of the climate changes.

In recent years, the occurrence of enormously cold winters in the East of the United States and extremely warm winters on the West side of the country has increased.

During the winter of 2013 – 2014, an extremely uncommon jet stream pattern appeared over the North of the US, which brought the vortex of cold air to the East and Midwest of America, and a ridge of high pressure over the state of California (Masters, n/p). While Washington was flooding, California received the minimum percentage of the precipitation. This state has never recorded this bad of winter conditions. The researchers record that this jet stream pattern is the most extreme and appeared due to the influence of global warming, the human beings caused that. They also ensure that such conditions will continue to appear and even worse if any severe actions will be taken.
