Cultural Diversity Essay

Cultural diversity is a rather broad term, most people are used to hear it often and they are convinced that they understand it perfectly well. Most probably they are able to see only the top of the iceberg and they still lack complete understanding of the concept of cultural diversity and this is the reason, why they fail to realize the meaning of preserving of cultural diversity for the humanity. Michael Gavin in his TED talk about cultural diversity mentions that all people in the world should be concerned about the loss of some indigenous cultures. It is difficult not to agree with him, because cultural diversity should not be limited only to different languages, rather this is a whole cultural “set”, passed from one generation to the other, it includes such unique knowledge, the lack of which would most probably have negative impact upon the future generations. Isn’t this the task of each modern individual to think about the generations of his or her children and grandchildren and so on?

One more utterly important point is that culture never remains static, it continues to develop all the time and it becomes transformed under the impact of various outside factors and this is the reason, why it is not possible to take a “piece” of it and just store it for the future. This is similar to taking the roots of the plant away and making an attempt to store it, the plant would remain, but it won’t develop any more and what is more important it won’t be alive and won’t give any fruit any more. Each individual is a part of his family, of his society and of the whole world, in other words, nobody is allowed to avoid the responsibility for preserving of cultural diversity and for the future of humanity.
