Steve Jobs & Apple Inc Essay

The Apple Computer Company is well known in various countries of the world as the most innovative and outstanding technology company within the last three decades. The major products of the company are the Macintosh computer, laptop, iPod, iTunes, iPhone. Most of the experts are convinced that the key towards such great success of the company lies in the fact that the founder of it was Steven Jobs. Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak founded Apple and turned it into a 32 billion dollar company thanks to their personal characters and professionalism.  Steve Jobs had to face a great number of personal and professional challenges, when he worked as CEO of the company and managed to cope with them thanks to his strong leadership style.

The professional, as well as personal life paths of Steve Jobs were not an easy. Jobs became the co-founder of Apple Computer in 1976. Then the company’s board of directors fired him 10 years later. He left and created two other companies and during the same period Apple had to survive with other three different CEOs, and finally the stock price dropped to $2 a share. Job was invited back to the company and this was a correct decision, as his return contributed to flouring of the company afterwards. Referring back to Steve Job’s bibliographical data, it is known that he was born in 1955 in San Francisco, California. He grew up in the very heart of the Silicon Valley and he was commented to have behavioral patterns during his school years. Jobs was aware of the fact that such behavior could later lead him directly to the jail. He did not like the middle school and wanted to move to Los Altos in 1967 in order to study at Cupertino Junior High School. This was probably the first meaningful decision, as this was the area of engineers and startup companies. As soon as Jobs was introduced into the world of electronics, he realized that it was not that complex and intricate, rather captivating and challenging. And this was exactly the world, where he could find his life passion. This is probably the second important factor, which formed his personality and professional position of a great leader, as when a person is doing his best as a leader, he becomes a good leader, but when a person is doing the business of his life, then he is able to become a great leader. As time passed he penetrated more and more into the world of innovative technologies, attending lectures, gaining new experience and knowledge. Thus his later leadership was based in addition upon profound professional knowledge of the sphere he was working and managing other people in.

Most of successful managers do not focus upon only one leadership style, instead they use several styles. Those leaders, who are able to manage at least four types of leadership, for example authorities, democratic, coaching and unifying, could have the greatest potential. In addition the leaders are to possess a number of personal qualities, such as for example be innovative, confident, challenging, calm, charismatic, etc. Such leaders would have the ability to motivate and encourage their team members, upholding the whole main picture along with delegating of the minor details for the others. This was exactly done by Steve Jobs. He could be highly appreciated for his creativity and being innovative, innovation has actually occupied the basic central place for creating the whole empire. Till the moment innovation still remains the major driving factor for Apple Company. Steve Jobs was certainly aware of the fact that being innovative and introducing constantly new ideas could be perfect for meeting the current customers’ needs and at the same time direct path towards effective leadership. Sometimes experts make jokes about the lack of college education by Steve Jobs, at the same time they are to admit that this fact did not hinder his achievements in IT solutions’ sphere.

As a leader Jobs was very challenging towards his employees and towards himself also. “Steve is very challenging both his towards his employees, but first of all for himself. Thus, tasks he delegates to workers are very likely not fully SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-framed). However, from the other hand, which is good thing, Jobs is permanently working to improve all fields of his job.”  (Erve, 2004).

Jobs is without any doubts a good example of a talented and devoted transformational leader, he was able to connect passion and respect towards his workers. Such approach of Jobs was the major driving force, making his workers devote their complete energy towards following the main strategy of the company and towards reaching of its major goals. Job’s natural capability to convince and charm other people around him became one of the contributing factors towards formation of his model of transformational leadership.

Overall, Steve Jobs is one of the best examples of successful transformational leaders in the world; his personal and professional advantages helped him to create a great IT empire with unique corporate culture and potential for the future. He was not an ideal person, his life consisted also of failures and unpleasant moments, however, he managed to become a real legend of leadership in business world.
