The Affirmative Action: For or Against Essay

The affirmative action should be abolished because it creates unfair conditions for different social groups creating better conditions for minorities or discriminated groups.

First, the affirmative action should be abolished because it creates conditions for the preferential treatment of certain groups just because of their history and past discrimination. The affirmative action is a reverse discrimination. In fact, it puts the majority in the disadvantaged position. http://www.andosciasociology.net/resources/Should+Affirmative+Action+Be+Abolished.pdf

Second, the affirmative action is supposed to be provisional and it should come to an end within the definite time. Such a situation creates conditions when the elite of certain social groups will rip off maximum benefits from the affirmative action, whereas the position of the rest of social groups’ population will remain unchanged. The end of the social disparity between different social groups is a historical rather than provisional issue. http://www.forbes.com/sites/billfrezza/2012/10/17/to-finally-abolish-affirmative-action-all-americans-should-check-the-minority-box/

Third, the affirmative action alone does not resolve the problem of disparity or discrimination. Instead, further changes are needed to create equal and fair conditions and opportunities for all social groups. The elimination of disparities will need complex social, legal and economic changes. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/05/opinion/moving-beyond-affirmative-action.html?_r=0

Fourth, the common good approach is more effective compared the affirmative action because it opens the way for the creation of fair conditions for all social groups and elimination of the disparity. When all social groups are treated on the equal ground, there will be no reason for disparity or discrimination. As a result, each individual will be able to benefit from his/her own skills and efforts alone, regardless of his/her background. http://www.scu.edu/ethics/publications/iie/v7n3/affirmative.html

Thus, the affirmative action should be abolished since its effectiveness is low and its implementation is discriminatory or is a reverse discrimination. In addition, the affirmative action has better alternatives.
