The Concept of Plagiarism Essay

The main aim of the assignment is to explain how I understand the concept of plagiarism.

Firstly, I need to state that plagiarism is an attempt to use the words of other people without mentioning their names; it means that one person is stealing the idea of another person trying to present it as the own one. According to law, the authors of works created by their creative work are the main holders of the copyright. So, the purpose of copyright is to protect and defend the rights and interests of authors of works of science, literature and art, as well as to defend the works by themselves from various attacks from the side of negligent people.

Plagiarism can take many forms, but very often it falls into three main forms, and these forms include: using the author’s words without quoting them properly; using some facts, data or information from one or another source without attribution, as well as the use of paraphrasing in the form that is very close to the original. Every of the above mentioned forms considered to be plagiarism, and the use of the author’s ideas in a way that will not show whose these words are may bring a person a lot of problems because everything of these goes beyond the frames of academic honesty.

Thus, I have explained the meaning of the concept of plagiarism in my own words, demonstrated its three main categories, and proved that it is necessary to be attentive in writing papers to avoid plagiarism because it is much easier to cite a source of information in a proper way than to overcome problems that can appear on the base of plagiarizing.
