The Interprofessional Education In Health Care

Introduction

The interprofessional education opens wide opportunities for the development of effective cooperation between health care team members and professionals working in the same health care organization. At the same time, the interprofessional education is considerably slowed down by the focus of educators and health care professionals on the development of individual skills and abilities (Solovy, 1995). In the real world, health care professionals have to interact with each other on the regular basis and the contemporary education and training of health care professionals should involve the interprofessional training to make them able to interact more successfully. The interprofessional education is very helpful for the effective work of health care professionals with their patients, especially patients with such health problems as autism, when the interprofessional training and education can help to find effective approaches to dealing with autistic patients. In fact, the interprofessional education facilitates the interaction between health care professionals and contribute to the development of effective health care services and improvement of their quality.

Effective teamwork

The effective teamwork comprises an integral part of the interprofessional education. I have learned that the team work is essential for the effective interaction between health care professionals. On the other hand, the team work has proved to be quite challenging because health care professionals working in different fields have to learn how to interact together effectively and fast. Otherwise, they will be unable to perform successfully and will not attain goals of their team. The development of the effective teamwork involves the close interaction and effective communication between all team members. In addition, the team work involves the distribution of functions and duties between health care professionals comprising the team. They should determine clearly which functions each member of the team should perform. Otherwise, the team may face problems, such as overlapping functions, poor interaction between team members, internal conflicts and disputes between team members, and others.

Safe, high quality care planning and provision

The safe, high quality care planning and provision can be achieved through the close cooperation between different health care professionals. For instance, in case of my work with the autistic patient, I have learned how to perform better and increase the quality of health care services delivered to the client due to the help of my team members working in other fields (Miller, 2000). At the same time, the care planning comprises an integral part of the health care practice because the care planning determines the effectiveness of health care services delivered by patients. In this regard, the quality of health care planning determines the quality of its provision because the plan is the basis on the ground of which health care services of the high quality are delivered to clients.

Carole’s story

Our team has managed to provide Carole with effective health care services after the improvement of the communication between different health care professionals within our team. Therefore, the team work and the close interaction and communication at the interprofessional level have proved to be efficient in case of Carole. At the same time, I have learned how important the communication between team members is important to ensure that health care services are delivered effectively. The case of Carole contributed to the better understanding of health problems of the client through the effective interaction between health care professionals.

Roles and responsibilities

The involvement of more health care professionals could be helpful for the treatment of Dan. In this regard, our team would benefited, if we had a speech pathologist, psychologist, physiotherapists, OT, Neurologists, social worker, pharmacist, nurses, dietician, and exercise physiologist (Ghodeswar & Vaidyanathan, 2007). The involvement of diverse health care professionals contributes to the increase of the effectiveness of health care services. For example, OT is needed to help the patient to complete everyday tasks and functions. Similarly, other health care professionals contribute to the team work and provision of the client of health care services of the high quality. The high quality of health care services depends on the quality of services delivered by each health care professional to clients.

Safe, high quality, family centred care

The effective interprofessional cooperation contributes to the enhancement of the safe, high quality family centred care and interprofessional education can expand opportunities for health care professionals to improve the quality of health care delivered to individuals and entire families. The high quality of family centred care is achieved through the close interaction and cooperation between health care professionals. Our team work has proved to be effective due to the distribution of functions between each team member. The close cooperation between health care professionals helps them to deliver specific functions of the superior quality. In addition, interprofessional training helps to deliver health care services to different team members focusing on their health problems, for example, specific female problems or health problems that are typical for children.

Organizations and agencies

Organizations and agencies operating in the field of health care have wide opportunities for the development of the interprofessional education but they do not always provide health care professionals with such opportunities. Nevertheless, I have learned that health care professionals can develop their interprofessional training through their close interaction and communication, in the course of which they can share their experience. The development of effective strategies of knowledge sharing helps health care professionals to expand their experience and develop new skills and abilities directly from other health care professionals (Scott, 2001). As a result, health care professionals working in different health care fields can teach other new skills and share their experience to improve the quality of services delivered to patients.

Potential barriers to implementing my care plan

The major barriers to implementing my care plan includes communication gaps, the lack of interaction between professionals and their low commitment to the team work or the lack of understanding of the team goal or goals. In this regard, communication gaps were the most significant problems because they undermined the effectiveness of the team performance. At the same time, the elimination of communication gaps can help to enhance the team performance. In addition, each team member should be aware of the team goals and contribute to the overall team performance.

Conclusion

Thus, the interprofessional education contributes to the consistent improvement of the quality of health care services delivered by health care professionals to their clients. Health care organizations may not always provide health care professionals with an opportunity to deliver health care services of the high quality, but health care professionals can develop their interprofessional education independently through the interaction between them and sharing their experience.
