Modern Popular Culture : The New Country Music Essay

New Country songs continue the traditional American genre of country songs and country music (Chamberlain, 2008). In fact, country music emerged as the authentic music of American colonists that mirrored the blend of European cultures and local specificities. At the same time, the rise of new genres, especially in the second half of the 20th century caused certain decline of country music, but today the New Country music has started to emerge as a revival of the traditional American music in a combination with modern music.

The New Country music is a blend of country music and new music styles, such as rock music, pop music and others. The blend is conditional because New Country music is the attempt of return to the basics, which started in the mid-1980s and is still relevant today (Holtzman & Sharpe, 2014). Representatives of the new genre focus on the use of traditional country music, which is re-worked and adapted to the modern audience and includes the use of modern elements, including modern instruments, which are normally used as the background, whereas traditional musical instruments play the main part.

Thus, the revival of New Country songs is the result of the return to the traditional American country music along with the inclusion of modern music elements, instruments and styles.
