The Problem of Illegal Immigration in the USA

Illegal Emigration to the Usa: Causes of the Problem

The United States of America was created as a country of liberty and equal opportunities. Being the country of immigrants, it was originally created become a homeland for different people. Most of them came looking for basic means to survive. These people became successful in creating prosperous and democratic country. At the same time, for the present moment the U.S. have immigration policies, which strictly the amount of people, who can enter the country. This creates the problem of illegal immigration. Researches, performed in last decades illustrate that the amount of illegal immigrants increases drastically. According to statistic data, provided by Congressional Research Service Report to Congress, the amount of illegal immigrants has increased from 3.2 million in 1986 to 9.3 million in 2006 (Source E). This information is supported by the data, provided by the Immigration and Naturalization Service (Source D). It is evident that the problem if illegal immigration needs immediate reaction. The growing number of illegal immigrants has negative effect on the society. Taxpayers have to pay for children of illegal immigrants. In the number of states urgent medical services are also payed from state money (Source C). Illegal immigration brings damage to the economy of the country, since illegal immigrants don’ts pay taxes and thus do not bring income to the state budget. At the same time, most authors, presented for these study advice rather radical measures in dealing with the problem. They annumerated multiple negative consequences, caused by illegal immigration (Source A, Source C). They also suggest radical measures, which are designed to make lives of illegal immigrants unbearable (Source B). I believe that the problem of illegal immigration needs immediate reaction. Enhanced control on the border and other preliminary measures could be an adequate response to the problem. At the same time, it is also necessary to pay attention to other side of the problem. Immigrants want to come to the U.S. because they are deprived of the chance to have a normal life in their native countries. At this point, it is impossible to implement only prohibitions, not giving this people a chance to start a new life. Liberalization of immigration laws and different programs, aiming to legalize illegal immigration can become an effective mean to take control over illegal immigration by creating legal means for immigrants to enter the country.
