Theoretical & Heuristic Problem Solving Essay

Theoretical problem solving is the processing by thinking of empirical data with the help of abstract thought working activity. Thus, the theoretical knowledge is characterized by the predominance of the rational moment – concepts, conclusions, ideas, theories, laws, categories, principles, premises, conclusions, conclusions, etc. The predominance of a rational moment in theoretical problem solving is achieved by abstraction-the abstraction of consciousness from sensually perceived concrete objects and the transition to abstract representations (MacLellan, Langley & Walker, 2012). For example, the theoretical problem solving can be used for planned real research activities, or for investigating phenomena or situations in which a real experiment is impossible at all (for example, quantum physics, the theory of relativity, social, military or economic development models, etc.).

In order to understand more deeply what is meant by heuristic methods, one should pay attention to the fact that the method can be verbally represented in the form of a certain system of rules, that is, a description of how to act and what to do in the process of solving problems of a certain class. Knowledge of heuristics does not guarantee that any task will be solved. Heuristic methods for solving creative problems are a system of principles and rules that determine the most probable strategies and tactics of the decisive, stimulating his intuitive thinking in the process of solving, generating new ideas and on this basis significantly increasing the effectiveness of solving a certain class of creative tasks.

The practice shows that when making and implementing decisions, the heuristic methods are used while the base remains to be the analytical abilities of decision-makers. This is a set of similar logical (heuristic and theoretical) techniques and methods for selecting optimal solutions by comparison of heuristic alternatives taking into account the accumulated theoretical experience.
