“Thinking in the Manner of Scripture: Martin Luther on Sola Scriptura” Video Review

The name of the video I am about to discuss in this document is “Dr. Gordon Isaac – Thinking in the Manner of Scripture on Martin Luther’s Sola Scriptura”. One fine day, exactly 31st of October 1517, a famous for his eloquence and bright mind German monk named Martin Luther changed the flow of the history by simply pinning his 95 theses to the church’s door for public reading (or sending it to other monks to know their opinion, which is controversial between scientists up until nowadays). Doctor Gordon Isaac begins his speech with these words in the video.

Later on, he continues with the fact that Martin Luther had absolutely no idea that he was the beginner of the new Christian movement nor he had some goals of arguing with pope. He just wanted to create an in-church reform, regarding the punishment for selling indulgences. As the doctor continues on, he states that Luther wanted to explain that the Holy Scripture is the main teacher for people, and there is no possible way that a priest could be the intermediate between the God and the human, because Sola Scriptures is the only way of connect between the God and the human being. Next point is that Jesus Christ is the soul content of Holy Scriptures. Doctor Gordon Isaac states in the video that imagining the Sola Scriptures without Christ is simply impossible due to the main point – Christ, as a God’s gift for sinful humanity, is what the Sola Scriptures is almost all about. Christ helps people, heals and shares with them love, so make him our example by reading the Holy Scriptures, as the doctor says.

The last point he discussed in his speech is the fact that no one is in the right to prove the scriptures, because they validate themselves as the God’s Word. Gordon Isaac explained this statement with Martin Luther’s and church’s opinion about the Holy Scriptures. By the end of the doctor’s speech, he thanks everyone for attention and listening and answers some interesting questions, left in the listener’s minds after the speech.
