Why Do I Want To Be a Nurse Practitioner Essay

Why do I want to be a nurse practitioner? There are many benefits of this profession that attract me. It is not a secret that nurse practitioners are in demand today. A certified nurse practitioner is a professional in nursing because a nurse practitioner should be well-trained to demonstrate specialized knowledge and the proper skills. I realize that nurse practitioners are recognized as experts in nursing. Moreover, they are more satisfied with their career than other nurses. The primary goal of a nurse practitioner is to provide professional health care for patients. A nurse practitioner is a well-trained advanced practice registered nurse, whose responsibilities include providing high quality health care services similar to the services provided by a physician (Sullivan-Marx et al., 2010). Nurse practitioners have an opportunity to choose different specializations in order to apply their skills and abilities. For example, they may be specialized in family nursing, pediatric nursing or geriatric nursing. The basic duties of nurse practitioners include making the diagnosis, treating various illnesses and injuries, prescribing the proper medications, as well as educating patients about therapy, treatment or drugs. Nurse practitioners are obliged to order diagnostic tests and make analysis of the results. They should work under the state law, performing their duties and responsibilities within the scope of their practice as defined under state law.

In addition, nurse practitioners are provided with monetary benefits and career advancement. Personal growth plays an important role in motivation of nurse practitioners. Nurse practitioners should have the proper skills to achieve success in their career, including problem solving skills, decision making skills, and written and oral communication skills. Additionally, they should have computer skills to effectively use new technologies, which help to facilitate task performance.

I believe that I have the proper skills and abilities to become a professional nurse practitioner. My personal experience in nursing is 20 years. I have served as a ICU nurse, performing many roles in mu nursing career. I have a huge experience in this field of nursing. As a ICU nurse, I was involved in professional training and development. I consider the primary goals of nursing and effectively use my knowledge and experience to satisfy the needs of my patients, both physical and mental needs. I know that the work of a nurse practitioner is not an easy one. It can be described as a physical demanding job because nurse practitioners must spend much time on their feet and provide assistance in lifting patients. In addition, the work of a nurse practitioner is considered to be emotionally demanding because nurse practitioners have to make life-and-death decisions. I know that nurse practitioners have to work night and remain on call, working without weekends. This fact means their schedules are extremely busy (Sullivan-Marx et al., 2010).

Thus, a nurse practitioner should be well-trained to meet the perceived health care needs. I am ready to serve as a nurse practitioner because I want to serve the community I live in and use my skills, knowledge and experience to assist others. I would like to share my knowledge of nursing and make the life of all people happier and healthier. The profession of a nurse practitioner would give me great satisfaction and joy. Although nursing is a challenging career, I am ready to work hard to achieve success in my personal growth as a nurse practitioner. I consider massive opportunities, rewards, flexibility of schedule and professional status.
