Why I Want to Be a Nurse Essay

Have you ever thought about a career in nursing? In fact, it is a very important and rewarding career, both emotionally and monetarily. Bringing people hope and merriment is something that you can achieve in this career. Additionally, being a nurse is a great profession since it allows you to show your compassion to others.

Undoubtedly, my personal choice of becoming a nurse is actually multifaceted. It is a combination of having a strong desire to assist people, my deep admiration for nurses whom I am familiar with, endless job opportunities to volunteer in my community, and more. However, the major reason why I want to be a nurse is that I have had several medical problems in my life, one being the death of my son when he was 7 days old and the nurses helped me deal with him in the intensive care unit (ICU) and the fact that he was going to die, there compassion and true caring helped me not only deal with the pain but gave me hope.

Hence, being in such a difficult situation prompted me to choose a nurse career.

Surely, the ability to assist others in different medical problems in their lives is one of the biggest motivator for me. I fully understand that the patients are not always on their best behavior; however, being able to care for a patient and assist him in restoring his health and emotional state is a true reward in itself.  I become aware of the fact that I will not always be thanked for everything I do, but I except that seeing a very ill patient overcome his illness will be of great importance for me. I will be truly satisfied to know that all my knowledge and skills helped a person restore his health and overcome the negative emotions and feelings. I realize that the nurses’ work requires great dedication and their main duty is to protect and take care of the sick, wounded and elderly. Hence, I am willing to be tolerant and attentive and to be able to feel with the families of those who were scared or sick.

In fact, the medical field has always been of interest to me and I have always desired to get a career in which I can change the people’s lives. In nursing, I can even save lives and bring joy and happiness to every family. I truly adore helping people in various difficult situations because I think that it is the most precious thing in the whole world.  What is more, I wish to make a difference in the people’s lives, who are sick and scared. I am absolutely eager to instruct the persons and families how to better care for themselves.

All in all, a nurse career is a very rewarding occupation today. Even the most proud and self-sufficient person can become vulnerable, when he is ill. In fact, each patient wants to be treated not only with the help of different pills, droppers and shots, but also he is eager to get moral and emotional support. The real truth is that anyone, who believes in healing, recovers faster. Thus, in this difficult journey, a nurse provides professional help and adequate support, taking care of the patient with all her attention and care.
